Audience and Institution Practice Essay.

Assess the importance of marketing in the media area you have studied.

In media marketing can be one of the most important aspects in film making and getting the film to the desired audience. Marketing in any project is the process of identifying, anticipating and satisfying the audiences wants and needs. The fact that marketing is used to attract audiences and customers, makes it one of the most important components of the media concept.

To start off, lets’ look at 2018’s American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics “The Black Panther” which was released February 16, 2018 and made approximately 1.344 billion USD as of May 22, 2018. In this aspect of media which is film it is important to look at how the product was distributed and along with many other strategies cross-promotion was used to help market the film. The first example of cross-promotion used by the film is when the first showing of the movie's trailer was made during a NBA’s finals game. According to text “Between 9 p.m. Eastern and midnight on Friday, the movie stirred up 109,000 tweets with the hashtag #BlackPanther, according to an analysis performed for CNBC by marketing technology firm Amobee. What’s even more impressive is the fan reaction in those tweets: 86 percent were positive” (Dichristopher, Tom, CNBC). Another strategy used to help market the film was Media distribution, more importantly the music aspect of media. The soundtrack from the film gave it a humongous boost in marketing, the album track for the film even won a Grammy for best score, an American Music Award for favorite soundtrack, and a NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Soundtrack/Compilation. With the use of these strategies it’s no wonder the film was such a huge hit in the box office.

In addition to that, the film used another method of marketing, which was the strategy of Merchandising. By making and distributing items such as clothing apparel to toys and coffee mugs the film reached more individuals, which helped increase the excitement and interest for the film that was generated among the public. According to the source “Jefferies analyst Stephanie Wissink raised her estimates for Hasbro's 2018 "Black Panther" merchandise sales from $60 million to as much as $100 million because retailers are "aggressively chasing inventory” (Berr, Johnathan, CBS News). Secondly another strategy used by the film was the release strategy. The film used this strategy by executing a red-carpet premiere on January 29, 2018 with the film itself premiering in commercial theaters in the US on February 16, 2018. As stated in the source “They walked the purple carpet swaddled in bold colors, headdresses, stoles, crowns and plenty of swagger” (Givhan, Robin, 2018, The Washington Post). By having this red-carpet release, it promoted the film and increased the marketing ultimately helped the film when it opened globally in February 2018 and made around $361 million in its first weekend alone.

In conclusion, Marketing advocates a huge importance in the media of film. By looking at examples like the 2018 mega block buster hit Marvels own Black Panther that used many forms of marketing to help advertise the film. By doing so the film made over 900 million dollars and majority of the profits came from marketing.

Extract Practice 24

In the extract “24” the authors vision is to convey the theme of justice to the audience. The author helps convey these ideas by showing the audience dramatic scenes full of tension and astonishment. By showing these scenes the audience is forced to wonder what the real reason behind it all.

In the first scene of the extract the authors start be conveying his ideas through a strong dialogue between the two main characters. The dialogue in this scene is between the two characters where the male character screams the female shows the tone in the male character voice that suggests that he is angry and upset but the female character remains calm showing that he isn't getting anywhere with the situation being upset. Bringing this much intensity in the first couple seconds gives the audience the idea that the women being integrated has a part to play in something greater. Along with the dialogue in the first scene playing a role in the overall theme of the extract, the lighting plays a part too. In the scene as soon as the male walks into the room the room is dark and remains dark all through the scenes. The low lighting emits the dark feeling that the male character is feeling. It sets the ominous tone for the scene which builds up emotion for the audience. This lighting helps build up dramatic tension for the audience keeping them on their feet wondering what will come next.

Secondly, in the end and start of the next scene of the extract the author continues to convey his ideas using the Mis en scene of props. In this scene the table used as a prop that the male character threw shows emotions that are similar to what the dialogue does. the dialogue and the props go hand in hand, the physical throwing of the table shows his anger and her not reacting to it is showing the effect of his actions. nothing. The scene shows the male making efforts to try and achieve justice for the actions the female has done but they ultimately get him nowhere. In addition to using props to help convey the authors ideas he uses the effect of zoom in the next scene. When the cameraman zooms in the scene where the male has the female in a chokehold, he is showing the up close the emotions on the character’s face. It shows the aggravation the character is feeling and the nonchalant attitude of the female character. In a way it emphasizes the emotions in the scene. By showing these emotions it shows the audience how serious the author intended on this scene being to help convey his theme and meaning.

The authors vison or meaning behind this extract is to show that pent up anger will not bring a person any closer to the solution while also trying to convey his theme of justice. The author does this by providing multiple examples of C.A.M and various amounts of  sound and editing effects.

Aice Media Final Project

Aice Media CCR

In this video i am discussing the progress of my project by answering 4 questions. The question were How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues? How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text? How did your production skills develop throughout this project? How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project? I answered every question in under 2 minutes and 45 seconds to meet my goal of 12 mins.

Editing Blog: Effects of the Corona Virus :(

Corona viruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV). The Corona virus disease (COVID-19) is a new strain that was discovered in 2019 and has not been previously identified in humans. Corona viruses are zoonotic, meaning they are transmitted between animals and people. Detailed investigations found that SARS-CoV was transmitted from civet cats to humans and MERS-CoV from dromedary camels to humans. Several known corona viruses are circulating in animals that have not yet infected humans. Common signs of infection include respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties. In more severe cases, infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and even death. Standard recommendations to prevent infection spread include regular hand washing, covering mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing, thoroughly cooking meat and eggs. Avoid close contact with anyone showing symptoms of respiratory illness such as coughing and sneezing. People of all ages can be infected by the new corona virus (2019-nCoV). Older people, and people with pre-existing medical conditions such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease appear to be more vulnerable to becoming severely ill with the virus. Since the outbreak of this virus I have not been able to edit with my group to help finish project. The main reason I haven't been able to edit  is because the state of Florida is under quarantine and to edit my group has to finish filming. A quarantine is a restriction on the movement of people and goods which is intended to prevent the spread of disease or pests. It is often used in connection to disease and illness. Quarantines prevent the movement of those who may have been exposed to a communicable disease, but do not have a confirmed medical diagnosis. Due to this quarantine it has been very difficult to get the group together and film or edit . One of the scariest things about the virus is how it effected the economy so quickly. My advice to anyone is that if you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical care early. Stay home if you feel unwell and get plenty of rest and stay isolated from the outside world.

Editing Blog: Re-Edit Blog

In this blog I will be talking about my re-editing process I went through for my project. Before i get into the details about the process, I will break down the process of editing itself. Editing is the process of selecting and preparing writing and photography. Editing also deals with visual, audible, and film media and is used to convey information. The editing process can involve correction, condensation, organization. The process can also involve many other modifications performed with an intention of producing a correct, consistent, accurate and complete work. For this project since I used a Mac book, I used the iMovie Editing software by Apple. Apple's iMovie video editing software generates beautiful titles with various effects in just a couple of clicks. Additionally in general, playing nice with other Apple products is something iMovie is quite good at. It will automatically bring in photos, videos, and audio clips from iCloud too. During the re-edit process I didn' do much of the editing but I did my part. To be a good video editor you need to be a storyteller, which means you must understand the elements to that story. A good video editor is more than just a button pusher; they're a storyteller, a listener, a problem solver and and an artist all in one. Video editing can be hard to do because usually, it's something that you hardly notice. It's only when things go bad that you'll notice a lack of good video editing. To begin you should start with good video footage. Good video editing is easy if you have good footage, to begin with. Good thing in my project we edited once before but i wasn't able to make it. All i really did was fix certain transitions into some scenes and made sure the film flowed. All in all my re-editing process was smooth as a baby's bottom.

Filming Blog: Re-shoot blog

The time has come to continue the new project but before i get to that let me recap on all I've done to this point. To start off I had to do research on the genre and the titles that would be in the film. After doing that I had to make a storyboard for the film which was ten pages. Now i am about to start the filming and editing process with my group members. Unfortunately I have been sick for the past week so I couldn't film. Since last week Thursday I have been feeling under the weather and it became worst when I attended my drum line competition that following Saturday. At the comp we placed third out of five drum lines. We also take home two best section awards; Best basses and Best quads. I went the doctors that Sunday and my doctor said that i might have the flu.... turns out she was right. The flu is treated primarily with rest and fluid to let the body fight the infection on its own. Over-the-counter anti-inflammatory pain relievers may help with symptoms. An annual vaccine can help prevent the flu and limit its complications.  My doctor also mentioned that the flu typically lasts one to two weeks, with severe symptoms subsiding in two to three days. However, weakness, fatigue, dry cough, and a reduced ability to exercise can linger for three to seven days. She also stated that healthy people usually get over a cold in 7 to 10 days. Flu symptoms, including fever, should go away after about 5 days, but you may still have a cough and feel weak a few days longer. All your symptoms should be gone within 1 to 2 weeks. So since i am feeling better I can finally start filming tomorrow with my group. Even though iv'e been under the weather my group and I still managed to re-shoot a couple of scenes. Some of the scenes we re-shot was the first few opening scenes because of some lighting issues. Some other scenes we re-shot was some scenes with audio issues such as the volume was to high or way too low.

Editing Blog: Have not Edited Yet :/

I did not edit today because I was in attendance at my personal SAT tutoring secession. At the beginning, SAT stands for Scholastic Aptitude Test. In 1993, the SAT was renamed as the SAT Reasoning Test (or known as SAT I). Meanwhile, the former Scholastic Achievement Test was renamed as the SAT Subject Tests (or known as SAT II). SAT Structure. The SAT is wholly owned, developed, and published by the College Board, a private, not-for-profit organization in the United States. It is administered on behalf of the College Board by the Educational Testing Service, which until recently developed the SAT as well. The test is intended to assess students' readiness for college. The SAT was originally designed not to be aligned with high school curricula, but several adjustments were made for the version of the SAT introduced in 2016, and College Board president, David Coleman, has said that he also wanted to make the test reflect more closely what students learn in high school with the new Common Core standards. The SAT takes three hours to finish, plus 50 minutes for the SAT with essay, and as of 2019 costs US$49.50 (US$64.50 with the optional essay), excluding late fees, with additional processing fees if the SAT is taken outside the United States.scores on the SAT range from 400 to 1600, combining test results from two 200-to-800-point sections: Mathematics, and Critical Reading and Writing. Although taking the SAT, or its competitor the ACT, is required for freshman entry to many colleges and universities in the United States, many colleges and universities are experimenting with test-optional admission requirements and alternatives to the SAT and ACT. Starting with the 2015–16 school year, the College Board began working with Khan Academy to provide free SAT preparation.

Filming Blog: First real day of filming

Today I filmed the first couple scenes of my two minute film and it was a success. The filming process was smooth and only took about three and half hours. Today I was the actor in the film and to be honest I was kind of nervous but I made it work. To help me out I remembered some acting tips a friend of mine taught me. Even though I've acted before I'm a shy actor but that's common in males.Yes in fact some of the best male actors are extremely shy. Women actors tend to have vivacious personalities though. With acting what you need is talent. Someone without the born talent of being an actor is not going to be able to be an actor although classes help a lot. One of my group members in my opinion has a natural gift in acting. As for natural talent, it certainly helps to be born with the ability to perform. But acting is also something that can be learned and mastered through lots of practice. Like any skill, it can be taught. With passion and perseverance, you can be a great actor…even if it doesn't come naturally. In all today's experience was a good one and really fun. I really got to see if I could really act in different settings and with different people. I for one can't wait to film the rest of the short film. I believe there is a certain way to make a good or even great film. A good script as well as good directing, acting, sound design, cinematography, musical score, casting, costumes, visual effects make a movie successful. Each new element you add to the movie can either detract of enhance that vision..

By the end of the day we should gotten at least eight scenes

Filming Blog: StoryBoard

Down below is a google slides presentation uploaded. This slide presentation is of the storyboard of our project. The storyboard is only of the first two minutes of the film. In it, we included each of the 20 scenes we have. We also included the titles and names that correspond to the titles within the scenes. For each box that was of a scene, we briefly described what was occurring in the scene. It shows the character(s) and the action(s) they will be doing in each scene. The sound present in each scene was also stated, such as diegetic or non-diegetic. This also includes any dialogue that may occur within the scenes, it was written under the boxes. Creating this storyboard is really beneficial to my group and I as it gives us an exact outline of each scene, and title sequence. When we begin to film, we will film with ease as we film the scenes with a clear plan of what to film. We will do this by continuously referring to our storyboard for guidance.

Planning Blog: Title Design in Details

Uploaded below is our google doc presentation. This slide presentation entails of a detailed overview of our title design. Within it, we described the fonts we chose, as well as the colors. We also discussed the spacing between the titles and the letters in the titles. Moreover, we expressed what we believe we will name the film, this far into the project. The final title of the film is subject to change but as of now we have a pretty good general idea. In another slide we also referred to the ways we will edit the titles entering and leaving the scenes when they appear. We agreed on simple fade-ins and fade-outs for them. Lastly, we touched on the duration that the titles will appear on the screen for when they pop up. The best amount of time would be two to three seconds for each. This will ensure that we fit every required title into the first two minutes. That concluded our overview of our title design.

Planning Blog: Location, Participant, Health, and Schedule

In this blog I will be talking about the Location, Participants, Health, and Schedule in my most recent project. The location is one of the many important aspects of filming, just as finding the right actors to portray a role, and just as important as the choice of music used in the film. A location is a significant visual enhancement for a movie total causative effects. The actors, location, and cinematography transcends into the emotive feedback experienced while watching what transpires on the big screen. The Participants in the film play a important role as well because without them there would be no film. Health and Safety; Professional film crews take health and safety issues very seriously. The line of responsibility runs from the Producer to the Production Manager and 1st Assistant Director and finally on to all crew members who have a duty of care which is recognized by law. Scheduling will help you to shoot the scenes in accordance to the location and make the production a hassle free process. You should have a backup plan because things might not go as per your convenience. It is important that you create a contingency plan, even if it is never used.

Planning Blog:Sound and Dialogue Script

A dialogue is a literary technique in which writers employ two or more characters to be engaged in conversation with one another. In literature, it is a conversational passage, or a spoken or written exchange of conversation in a group. It can also be between two persons directed towards a particular subject. In this blog I will be showing the sound and dialogue of my script. In my next project I will be doing a short two minute film. My group will be doing a Sci Fi film which will be called De-simulated. When it comes to dialogue in a script, every word is selected for a reason, because they want to conceal something, find something out, kiss them, hurt them and so on. The trick, then, is in making script dialogue feel like real life, but with every single conversation earning its place in the scrip. In this project the dialogue and sound will play one of the most important parts. As seen in the power point some of the dialogue is between a customer.

Planning Blog:Shooting Script

In film making and video production, a shot is a series of frames that runs for an uninterrupted period of time. Film shots are an essential aspect of a movie where angles, transitions and cuts are used to further express emotion, ideas and movement. The angle of a shot can dramatically affect how we perceive the character. The directors in a film choose to use several different angles. The angle of a camera shot is really important for shaping the meaning of the film. There are plenty of angles to film to get your point across. In my project some of the shots I will be using includes Close up sots, Medium close up, Long shot, Wide shot, and others. Some of the angles I will be using are High angle, Low angle, Action match, Eye line match, and some others. Camera shots are an essential aspect of film making and video productions, because by combining different types of shots, angles and camera movements, the filmmakers are able to emphasize specific emotions, ideas and movement for each scene

Title Research: Website Research the second wave

After getting a feel with this whole title sequence situation my group members and I figured we should still do more research to really make us knowledgeable in this field. We wanted to do this in order to come to terms with the best way to make the most efficient title sequence we could make. So we did more research and found another great website. The second website that we found was called Watch the Titles. This website was made in 2006 and has continued to be a great source for people interested in title sequences. This website showcases popular title sequences for feature films, tv shows, video games, event titles, student projects, and french Fridays. This website is dedicated to the art and designers of title sequences and it also focuses on the creative process of making title sequences. We chose to look more into this website because it also included student projects, which we felt was something we should definitely look into. This was a great thing to expand research on. We went through all of the student projects, being that there were only a few, and analyzed them in order to help us with our project. Although the first website was very helpful we felt like this website was better for a few reasons. One it was slightly more organized. Also, it includes all the same amenities and more.  For example not only does it include the title sequences, designers, studios, and a search engine it also includes an easy link to all of the social media. Now after researching this website my group members and I feel like we are ready to start this project.

Title Research: Website Research

My group members and I wanted to start getting a feel for how Science Fiction (Sci-Fi) shows/movies are generally introduced through a title sequence. We wanted to do this in order to come to terms with the best way to make the most efficient title sequence we could make. So we decided to research title sequences. The first website that we found was called Art of the Title. This website was made in 2007 and has continued to be a great source for people interested in title sequences. This website showcases popular title sequences to movies, tv shows, games, events, and conferences and explains the creative process that goes into making them. We chose to look more into this website because we felt that it would help us understand, in detail, the creative process of making a Sci-Fi title sequence. It offers a variety of title sequences. From old to knew, low profile to low profile, and classics to low rated movies, etc. This website also offers a variety of articles going into more detail on a specific film(s). Not only does it display sequences and articles, but it also gives background information and descriptions on title sequence designers and production studios. The best thing about this website is it is very easy to find title sequences with our genre. The website has a search engine allowing us to simply search our genre up, giving us Sci-Fi title sequences, designers, studios, articles, and news. This website helped us in many ways. It gave us a general idea of how Sci-Fi title sequences are. It also gave us something we weren't even expecting, which is the creative process behind making a title sequence. We now realize how important the creative background/intent is when making a title sequence. After researching this one website my group members and I already feel more equipped to go into this project.

Genre Research : Transcendence

The final movie my group and I decided to analyze for inspiration is called Transcendence. This is an American science fiction thriller film. It is about the world’a foremost authority on artificial intelligence conducting highly controversial experiments to create a sentient machine.

In this movie they were many different camera angles, movements, and shots. Some angles in it included level, over the shoulder, many medium shots, many close ups, and medium long shots. There were also many two shots and three shots. Some camera movements in this movie included tilts, zooms, and tracking shots. Lastly, some shots that I noticed in this movie were crane shots and there were a few stock shots.

As far as the CLAMPS for this movie, the aspects were very pleasing. The costumes in this movie included professional clothing worn by those characters high in power, scientific costumes worn by scientists, and everyday clothing worn by the normal characters. The lighting in this movie included basic three point lighting, hard film lighting, low-key lighting, natural film lighting, and practical site lighting. As I’ve watched the other movies in the science fiction genre, I’ve noticed that they tend to consist of the same types of lighting. Which would make sense because those types of lighting are part of the conventions for the science-fiction film genre. Moving on, the acting in this movie was serious and dramatic. Some scenes required violent acting seeing as they were violent scenes.
The makeup in this movie was not very over-the-top, because the characters in the movie played fairly normal rules compared to rolls and other science fiction movies such as aliens. The props in this movie consisted of normal items ranging from computers to cars. However they were also props such as large scientific machines and other scientific objects. There were also guns for props as well as other weapons. The setting for this movie took place in an average city. The setting changed a few times throughout the movie. The characters were in houses, as well as laboratories.

The editing in this movie was very well structured. The main types of editing I noticed were cross cutting, cutaway, eye-line match, shot reverse shot, and jump cut. I also noticed dissolves, fade ins, fade outs, burn ins, and burn outs. One other edit I noticed was a wipe. As far as the common sign in this movie, there was diegetic sound, dialogue among the characters, voiceovers, sound motifs, and sound bridges. As far as the soundtrack, the score enhanced the movie, as well as the incidental music and ambient sound.

Every element in this particular sci-fi movie enhanced the plot of the movie and made it very intriguing to watch. My group and I enjoyed the lighting in this movie because it went along well with every scene. We also enjoyed the diversity of the different types of angles, movements, and shots. One thing we disliked about this movie and felt could have been better was the acting. Johnny Depp was incredible, as he usually is, but the other actors and actresses could have been better. Watching this movie allowed my group members and I to gain even more insight on the elements we should include in our own sci-fi movie.

Genre Research: Hunger games

Another movie that r my group members and I chose to research was The hunger games: Catching fire. This movie is a Sci-Fi thriller that came out in 2013. In this movie specifically the shots that were commonly used with a purpose were Close-Up shots, Wide shots, Two shots, Aerial shots and Long shots. The angles that were commonly used with a purpose were High, Low, and Eye Level angles. The movements that were commonly used with a purpose were Tracking, Pan, Tilt, and Crane. The costumes used in this movie were different depending on the role. The characters who were regular people wore regular everday attitre, the people who were privileged wore dramatic/colorful clothing, and the people who went to the arena wore dramatic dressy clothing then in the arena wore battle clothes. The lighting used was often natural lighting, dim lighting, and basic 3-point lighting. The acting in this film was serious and intense throughout. The props in this movie consisted of weapons and battle equipment. Lastly the setting was mainly in the  arena in which the characters fought in.
The common sound used in the film was diegetic, non-diegetic, dialogue, score, ambient, and incidental. The common editing was cross cutting, cutaway, eye-line, action match, and reaction.
Overall this movie was very good. I liked almost all aspects except for the acting. As much as I enjoyed this movie, it needed more calm moments to balance out the chaotic, intense scenes that took place. This move also helped me develop ideas and brainstorm for our project.

Genre Research: What happened to Monday

Having decided to create a film part of the sci-fi genre, my group and I thought it would be best to watch and analyze a few movies part of the genre to get a better understanding of the conventions part of it to create ours. One movie we watched was “What Happened To Monday” released in 2018. We noticed that it had many different camera angles, movements, and shots. Some common angles in it were high-level, over the shoulder, medium shots, medium close-ups, close-ups, and medium longshots. There were also many two-shots and three-shots in this movie. Some camera movements we noticed were pans, flash pans when showing the setting, tilts to show entirety, and tracking shots to move along with the action happening. Lastly, some camera shots I noticed in this movie were crane shots and I believe I saw many stock shots.
When watching this movie and the other movies, I do plan I made sure to take note of every aspect of CLAMPS present in the movies. In this particular movie, the costumes we saw were professional clothing worn by professional workers, scrubs worn by doctors and scientists, and every day clothing (such as a t-shirt and jeans) worn by the normal people in the film. The common lighting in this film was basic three-point lighting, hard film lighting, low-key lighting, natural film lighting, and practical set lighting. The actors in this film had to act sympathetic, dramatically, violently, and hopelessly for the many different moods the scenes had. The make up in this movie compared to other science-fiction movies was not too dramatic. The actors had make up that highlighted certain features of their faces, but not dramatically. The make up seemed to look like every day make up women would wear in the real world. The main props in this movie were technological items such as computers and machines. There were three main settings in this movie which included the outside world, the inside of the houses, and laboratories.
The main types of editing we noticed in this movie were cross cutting, cutaway, eye-line match, shot reverse shot, and jump cut. As far as the common sound in this movie, they were diegetic sound, dialogue among the actors, and voiceovers. For the soundtrack there was score, incidental music, and ambient sound.
All of these elements in this movie “what happened to Monday“ made the movie very interesting and involving. Watching this gave my group and I ideas of the types of camera angles, shots, and movements to include into our opening scene for our film. It also gave us idea of the sound we should include, as well as the editing. In this movie we enjoyed the suspense and the acting. At some points in the movie some scenes were dragged on and became slow and that is what we would have to say we disliked about this movie. But other than that, it was a very good science-fiction movie.

Genre Research: Ready player one

My group members and I have been watching movies within our genre, which is Sci-Fi, so that we can learn from them and use the conventions in the movies in our project. One movie that really caught my group members and I’s eyes was Ready Player One. This movie is a Sci-Fi thriller that came out in 2018. In this movie specifically the shots that were commonly used with a purpose were POV shots, Close-Up shots, Wide shots, Two shots, and Long shots. The angles that were commonly used with a purpose were High, Low, and Eye Level angles. The movements that were commonly used with a purpose were Tracking and Pan. The costumes used in this movie were different because the storyline mainly took place in a virtual world more than the real world. This aspect effects each area in CLAMPS. When it would switch to the real world the characters were wearing everyday clothes, but when it was in the virtual world the characters became animated giving a full range of “costumes” because it was any game avatar you could imagine. The lighting in the real world was often natural lighting, dim lighting, andl basic 3-point lighting. In the virtuarl world the lighting was often dim and natural as well, along with colorful animated lighting. The acting in this film was serious yet lighthearted. The props in this movie consisted of virtual reality sets and equipment. Lastly the setting was mainly in the virtual world called the Oasis, and in the real world  it was in the space that people would play virtual reality.
Common sound used in this movie was a lot of non-diegetic, dialogue, score, and voice overs. Common editing used in this movie was cross cutting, split screen, reaction, cutaway, and insert.
Overall I really enjoyed every aspect of this movie. I really enjoyed all of the CAMS, CLAMPS, and sound/editing used throughout the movie. I feel like watching this movie allowed me to get some ideas for our project as well.

Genre Research : \ Picking the Genre

After looking through three different genre's which were Action, Comedy, and Sci Fi  my group and i chose Sci Fi. Science fiction is a genre of speculative fiction that typically deals with imaginative and futuristic concepts such as advanced science and technology, space exploration, time travel, parallel universes, and extraterrestrial life.Watching Sci Fi films enables us to reflect on the ways people interact with each other, with technology, with our environment. A good science fiction work posits one vision for the future, among countless possibilities, that is built on a foundation of realism.  Sci Fi relies heavily on scientific facts, theories, and principles as support for its settings, characters, themes, and plot-lines, which is what makes it different from fantasy. We chose Sci Fi Because p\out of all our pitches our Sci Fi genre was the best in my opinion. Going forward with Sci Fi being our chosen genre i know our film will be a great one.

Genre Research: Action vs.Sci Fi

A genre that my group looked at is the Action genre. Action genre is a film genre in which the protagonist or protagonists are thrust into a series of events that typically include violence, extended fighting, physical feats, and frantic chases. Some blockbuster films that fall into this genre includes Avengers End Game, War for the Planet of the Apes, Dead pool 2, Jurassic World, Transformers: The Last Knight, and many more. The Action genre can deal with many different types of films like protagonist vs. antagonist or Action adventure, comedy, crime, drama, horror and thriller. To understand the genre more you could look at the genre's convection's. Camera angles normally found in the action genre are High angles, Low angles, Eye level, and Over the shoulder angles. Camera shots found in the genre are Close up shots, Long shots, Medium shot, Two shots, Three shots, Wide shots, and Point of- view shots. Camera moments in the genre include are Pans or Tilts, and Zooms. These conventions are called the CAMS of media and this genre and are used in all types of media. In addition to those conventions here are the CLAMPS of this genre. The typical costumes in the action genre are super hero costumes, spy costumes, and many others. Lighting commonly found in this genre is Hard film lighting, Basic 3-point-lighting, Motivated lighting, and Natural film lighting. Types of acting found in this genre includes Classical acting, Method acting, and many others. Lastly the props found in this genre include Swords, Jet packs, Guns, High tech gear, and many more. Some elements in this genre includes stunts, chases, fights, battles, and races. Some common editing in this genre include Cutaways, Crossing Cutting Fade in/Fade out, and many more. Examples of comman sounds found in this genre are gunfire, explosions and shouting. Some things I like about the action genre are it’s mindless escapism. You don’t need to think about action movies much, you can just sit back, munch popcorn and watching it all unfold. Everyone needs that from time to time. It helps that action, unlike comedy, isn’t really subjective.Things I do not really enjoy about the genre is nothing really action is a really popular genre.
Another genre my group looked at is the Sci Fi genre.Science fiction is a genre of speculative fiction that typically deals with imaginative and futuristic concepts such as advanced science and technology, space exploration, time travel, parallel universes, and extraterrestrial life. Some major films that are in this genre include The Star Was series, Interstellar, Inception, The Martian, and many more. To get a better understanding of the genre you would need to look the conventions of the genre. Camera angles normally found in the Sci Fi genre are High angles, Low angles, Eye level, and Over the shoulder angles. The elements that are in this genre include Interplanetary warfare, Parallel universes, Fictional worlds, Time travel, and Space travel and Exploration. Props used in this genre include Light sabers, Star ships, Alien ships, and many others. Some comman editing found in this genre includes Fade in/out, Cross cutting, Eyeline Match, and many others. I enjoy the Sci Fi Genre because it show the audience a new aspect on the world even though it's mot real it makes us feel as such. Things I do not like about the genre is that there are not as many good Sci Fi films as other genre's.

Genre Research (Starter Up)

This power point project was on the genre Epic. In the project me and my fellow group members examined and analyzed the genreLooking back at first semester, my group and I completed a genre project. For this project, we were assigned a specific film genre and instructed to conduct heavy research on it. Being given the "epic" genre, we researched many different aspects of the genre. We researched the common camera angles, movements, and shots. We also researched the types of lighting found in scenes from different epic films, such as natural and dark lighting. Moreover, in our research we found that common elements of epic movies include heroic figures and figures of royalty, vast and extravagant settings, lavish costumes, and specific time periods and eras. The research also gave us insight on the typical sound effects and music in epic films, such as triumphant music and expansive music scores. Three examples of epic films are Les Miserables, Avatar, and The Hobbit. Finally, after this heavy research of the genre we came to conclusion of what elements are appealing and not appealing in epic films. The extravagant settings and time periods in the movies are very appealing, while the makeup of the characters is not so much.

The final task pt. 2

Having our three total movie pitches, my group members and I had to begin the process of choosing our final pitch. We narrowed our pick down to our two favorite pitches out of the three. Moreover, we eliminated our least favorite out of the three.
Eliminating our third pitch, we kept our first and second pitches. As we read them all out in respect to our project, we concluded that there are a few good reasons why pitch number three should have been eliminated the way it was. While it indeed was a good storyline, it was definitely the least interesting and creative out of the three. It had potential, should all of the other details have been added, but all in all it was a basic idea. Many coming-of-age movies have had similar storylines. It just was not wow enough.
After eliminating, we were left to choose between our first and second pitches. We all agree that pitch number one was very interesting. There are a few, but not many films about simulations. So, we thought it may be interesting to bring the idea to life with the opening scene. Our first pitch is good because it allows for a very interesting development of the plot. Viewers would be on their toes the entire film waiting to see what happens next. For our project, this page would be good because we could have a very effective opening scene. We would be able to introduce the problem, leaving the viewers wanting to watch the entirety of the film by the end of the two minutes. There are people our group have in mind to play some of the rules in the video.
With these analyzations of our main pitch, we came to a conclusion. The final pitch we chose for our project is our first pitch. From the beginning, that was mine in my group members favorite pitch idea. The idea of portraying an individual stuck in a simulation and having to find them self out somehow, seems so unique and interesting to us. We believe it will make for a very appealing opening scene for our project. It will leave any viewer wanting to watch what happens for the remainder of the film.

The final task ( REDO)

Hey it's Derek and im back to tell you about my new project im working on. Before we get to the new let's talk about the past. In the last six month's I've had two different projects. The first project was a Nike Commercial in which i was the actor and co-director of the film. In the second project my group and i made a music video and i relatively ketped the same jobs. In these months my skills in film and media have grown expeditiously in my opinion. I went from not knowing how to even work a camera to making a form of media. I can definitely see myself doing this in the future. For this project which is my last project for my class i will be working with two other people. The people I'll be working with are the same two from the other projects Jada and Jazenya.
In my last to projects I've used the knowledge gained from this course to help my products. Media can be defined as the main means of mass communication  broadcasting, publishing, and the Internet regarded collectively. We plan on having different schedules for the different stages of the filming process. The first on our schedule is developing our story and getting through the pre-production process. During the pre-production process, we will formulate our script, create our storyboard, and secure our actors and locations.  Next on our schedule is to film and record all things needed in the commercial. This will include the footage and voice overs. After this we will edit all footage, recordings, and special effects. During this part of the schedule we will review all footage, and should there be anything we need to reshoot, we will do so.
A Pitch can he defined as a way to describe an idea or what the film your pitching has to offer. Pitch #1: Simulation- Boy wakes up and feels out of place and starts to question his reality. After realizing he's in a simulation he works to find his way out. Pitch #2: Stock home syndrome- Girl held captive falls in love with her kidnaper. She knows it's not right, but will she choose love or freedom? Pitch #3: Last day of Cryschool:  Friend group of five finally graduate high school but whats next? Where will their paths take them will the remain friends?
